Agop Bel
June 1, 1930 - April 7, 2020
1930 - 2020
My dad Agop Bel will be forever in our hearts.
He was born in Sivas Turkey in 1930 from Armenian parents who were both Genocide survivors.
He was the youngest of his 4 sisters. The 4 sisters were sucesfuil seamstresses. Up until a certain age the girls had dressed my dad up like their doll.
I had 4 aunts and a large number of cousins. Several live in Boston some in Geneve, in Toronto and Paris.
My aunts had all passed away.
My daddy passed away April 7th at 9.35pm from Covid 19 that he contracted from his private residence Heron in Dorval. It happened very fast. From the time we learnt at 7pm. And he was admitted right away at The Lakeshore hospital. He passed away at 9.45pm that evening.
We will have a small funeral to do our prayers with his coffin then burial with our priest Der Tavid Markarian at Rideau funeral home in DDO at 2pm. Easter Monday.
There might be a live virtual diffusion. I will find out the link and post here.
His life was filled with great achievements.
He was an architect engineer.
He built many predominant buildings in Turkey
The nuclear Reactor in Turkey.
Rebuilding of the city Fehiye after the earthquake.
Major transport company Koç. Their entire garage system.
Several luxury condo buildings.
Only among few of the large Scale structures he leaves behind in Turkey.
My parents met during their university studies in Istanbul. My mom Armenuhi Bel Artokun became a lawyer. They waited each other as an engaged couple several.years after their graduation they married each other.
They have 2 girls. I am the eldest Hera Bel. and my sister Hilda Bel. My sister gave them 2 beautiful grandchildren. They practically raised them when they were both young. Angelica Gaumer and Alden Gaumer.
My dad was a very gentile soul. Loved cooking. He used to cook up a storm and entertain with my mom large groups at our home.
They both loved opera. They used to have season tickets in Turkey. As kids we used to admire seeing them in gowns and him in tuxedo to attend functions.
Daddy always called me "my teenager girl"... he always told me I don't age. And I don't act old. Every time I visited them in their DDO home he used to go to the kitchen and make us Turkish coffee. I used to love visiting them.
They gave us everything. Sacrificing from their life. They even moved for us to Canada leaving behind a comfortable life.
In Montreal they owned a well coveted tailor and dry cleaning store where almost the entire downtown executive crowd were their customer base.
They married us both to 2 wonderful gentlemen. My husband is Anthony Czaharyn. My sister's husband is Harry Gaumer.
Dad and mom calls our husbands their sons. He said he always wanted to have boys. Now his son in laws are his boys.
Later in life Dementia did cast a shadow on his health. To the last day he recognized us. He was very happy to see us. We brought mom regularly to see him.
During their young engaged time together he had a dream. In his dream he was walking with my mom hand in hand. He said at the end there was a 2 separate roads. They got separated.
Dad had his premonition how he will be separated from his love my mother. Mom and dad could not be at the same residence. He lived in that residence 2 years.
I want my daddy to be remembered by everyone that were touched by him.
He loved construction. Several areas in my home are renovated by him.
WE LOVE YOU DADDY. REST IN PEACE.
YOU WORE YOUR ANGEL WINGS AND FLEW AWAY FROM US.
