Akiko Edith Sakai passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, in her 103rd year (widow of the late Katsushige Sakamoto).
Dear mother of Wendy (widow of Brian McDermott) and Grant (Diane Loisel, grandmother of Simon and Laurence, great grandmother of Charlie).
Survived by her sister Chiyo Sakai Brydon (late Jock Brydon) and brother John Shuichi (late Emi Gwen Hayakawa).
Predeceased by the Sakamoto brothers-in-law Minoru (late Kimi), Bill (late Bessie), Yuki (late Omiye), Koichi (late Tiny Satoru), late sister-in-law Kimi Hayakawa (late Happy). She is survived by 3 generations of nieces and nephews and cousins in California.
Funeral services will be held on May 13, 2026, at Rideau Memorial Gardens, 4275 Boulevard des Sources, Dollard des Ormeaux.
Visitation will be from 10:00am – noon with funeral from 1:00pm – 1:45pm followed by the burial at 2:30pm
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Japanese Canadian Community Centre of Montreal will be appreciated.
