Alan Morton, 57, of Beaconsfield, Quebec, passed away unexpectedly on November 5, 2025. He is survived by his loving spouse, Chantal, and their two children, Abby and Owen, who were his pride and joy.

Alan will be forever cherished by his mother, Joan (Geoff), his late father, Brian (Joanne); his sister, Pam (Frank), and their children, James and Heather; and his sister, Sheila (Daniel); as well as his stepsiblings, Lorinda and Jordan (Syndi), as well as Laura and her family. He is also remembered by his in-laws, Joe, Linda, and Beata and his biological mother, Judy (Ross), and her family.

There was no way of knowing that what began as a way to keep the kids busy at the cottage in Dunany, QC, in the junior golf program his grandfather was instrumental in establishing, would spark his career and lifelong passion in the turf industry. From being on the crew during the build at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Kanata, ON, it was there that he discovered you could actually study turf! So off he went to the University of Guelph, where he met the love of his life, Chantal, and where he graduated with both his Associate Diploma in Turf Management and his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy.

As an avid golfer, he not only saw a course from a golfer’s eye, but from a maintenance perspective. He was able to visualize each golf course he played, or worked at, beyond most people’s comprehension and he enjoyed the challenge of being able to enhance each courses’ attributes. He had an unbelievable talent for being able to "fix" some struggling courses and took so much pride in what he did and loved working on the various courses throughout his career. Some of the highlights were: the Skins game at Le Diable, managing the course at The Kanawaki Golf club during the filming of The Greatest Game Ever Played with Bill Paxton, and hosting the Canadian Senior Men's Championship at Le Griffon des Sources. He was recently appointed as the Quebec representative on the Board of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association and was excited to contribute to the profession he loved.

In addition to his professional roles, he spent 9 years on the Board of his beloved Dunany Golf Club, where his heart and soul will live on forever. It is impossible to thoroughly express what Dunany meant to him. It was his refuge, his sense of belonging, his “home” and it was where he planned to grow old with Chantal and forever keep an eye on the golf course.

Alan will be remembered for his incredible sense of humour, quite often brimming on inappropriate, his infectious smile, his sharp wit, his mischievous spirit and his ability to make everyone around him feel like family. His warmth could sometimes be overshadowed by his fierce competitiveness on the curling sheet playing his newer discovered passion at the Pointe Claire Curling Club. Off the ice, Alan was always willing and proud to help around the club, from volunteering in the kitchen, to being on the Board, to convening one of the largest events of the year. He took great pride in his amateur cooking skills and those who were fortunate enough to know that Alan was behind the snack or meal, knew that he had prepared it with intention and love.

He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, and his family takes comfort in the memories of his unconditional love, support, encouragement, and strength. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. From the 7th tee in Dunany: FORE…on NINE (or one).

Two celebrations to honour Alan’s life are being planned. On Friday, November 14, 2025, the family welcomes those who wish to remember Alan at his beloved Pointe-Claire Curling Club from 5:00–9:00 pm; snacks will be served. Then in the summer of 2026, a celebration will be held at Alan’s most cherished place on earth, The Dunany Country Club, with details to follow.
