It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Aniello D’Orvè. Beloved husband of Orlandina D’Orvè, devoted father of Emilia (Roberto), Pina (Alino) and Felicia (Bruce). Cherished nonno of Tanya (Chad), Gabriel, Cynthia, Tamara and Tiana. Aniello died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews in Italy, as well as his close friends.

PLEASE NOTE: Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the family understands that not everyone will be comfortable attending, visitations will be limited to 25 people for a period of 15 minutes in rotation (with required masks and social distancing). Additionally due to the restrictions the funeral mass will be attended by immediate family only.We thank you in advance for your understanding.

Over the past few weeks, we often received words of encouragement from family and friends that my sisters Emilia, Felicia and I were good daughters to have cared for our father at home despite the physical and emotional challenges we encountered in his end of life journey. Truth be told, there was never a discussion amongst us not to do so because it was reflection of our devotion and love for our "papa" as he always placed our well being first.

Our father Aniello D‘Orvè, was a kind gentleman that emigrated from Italy in 1958 to join our mother Orlandina.

They shared 62 years together... years filled with blessings and hardships as well. Three daughters, Emilia, Pina and Felicia; three son in laws Roberto, Alino and Bruce whom he loved as his children as well.

How can we describe our "Papa"...

Well he was always well dressed; never would our father be caught wearing anything but perfectly pressed dress pants and a polo top. He was quick to correct our grammar with "lo zucchero" and let us not forget importance of the apostrophe and accent in our surname.

Our father was the first to help with any repairs at home whether he was capable or not always inventing different ways to make things work.

His occupation as a painter we had to endure his expert opinion of the need to always paint the walls of our homes white or at the most colour "off white" as the idea of any other colour was just not correct !!

He was always ready to help other family members and friends when needed. All the hospital visits and home visits he made to family and friends providing a helping hand, support or car rides.

His quiet stoic demeanor brought strength to us and others. His loyalty, presence and kindness never made us wonder if he would be there when needed as he just was ... always.

A man of few words with a determination and strength to always be attentive and respectful towards others despite perhaps even being on the receiving end of life challenges .

Our father enjoyed walking. When he lived on St Denis he maintained daily walks despite the weather and we always knew that his walks would bring him to Cecchini Tailleurs… literally his second home .

Let us not forget he was also notorious for his stubbornness and determination for shovelling snow in the midst of any snow fall or storm rendering anyone who watched him very nervous but not him as he would say "so cosa sto facendo".

His grandchildren, Tanya, Gabriel, Cynthia, Tamara and Tiana, Nonno was so proud of each of you. His trademark will be remembered of the tissues he always keep in his side pant pocket to wipe the tears that would just spring up in his eyes when you shared good news with him. He and Nonna were always the first to arrive to the hospital when each of you were born and he was quite the babysitter as well. We will miss the famous “I no speak English” phrase!!

Nonna told us, we his daughters were his roses but each of you filled a garden with an abundance of joy and love you had for him.

His progressive dementia brought significant cognitive challenges but when he had glimpses of recognition of your presence, he was so happy to be with you in the moment as the joy and love was so evident in his reactions. Remember those beautiful moments and his special hand wave of "ciao" especially the last few weeks ...

So papa now it is time to say good bye...
We wish you peace and love to be reunited with your mother, siblings and friends… May you continue to enjoy long walks with light snowflakes that cover the ground.

Remember Papa
Ti abbiamo tanto amato in questo mondo e continuerà nei prossimo… ciao Papa
