Dear family and friends, help us in honouring and celebrating the life of Audrey Phyllis Wheeler Saunders.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Audrey Saunders, wife of the late Jack Saunders, mother to Nancy (Mike) and Michael (Sonia), grandmother to Nicole (Mitchell) and Jessica (Anthony), and great-grandmother to Matteo, Liam and James.

Audrey was born during the Great Depression in Saskatchewan. She always spoke of the gentleness of her father and the strength of her mother, both needed to sustain a family of seven during tough times. They enriched their lives with love, music and kinship and set precedent for who she would become and how she would live.

When her children, Nancy and Michael, were growing up, they saw their mum write many letters in her beautiful cursive hand. She always made time to stay in touch with those she loved, and that never changed. Facebook was her favorite way to be with her friends and family and here daily quote meant a lot to many.

She moved to Montreal, where she would go on to marry Jack Saunders and had her two children that she made the center of her world. Walks to parks, picnics at the Botanical gardens were some of the simple joys she shared with them.

She always attended church, taught Sunday School, played hymns and worked with young people, shaping and changing many lives.
She loved a good "sing along" and would play the piano or guitars, at parties or around a campfire singing with abandon. She had excellent "platform ability".
Her proudest accomplishment was attending university and receiving her BFA in 1992. She reveled in the life of being an art student, wore funky clothes and learned to drink red wine.

She was a devoted Grandma to Jessica and Nikki. Making the pilgrimage to Mississauga as often as she could. She spent many an afternoon with the girls at the park, pool or just drawing. She enriched both girls' lives. Her three great-grandsons had the joy of knowing her smile and her gentle touch.

She was the cool aunt, she traveled far and texted often to remain a part of her nieces and nephews’ lives. She was an honored guest at many celebrations.
She was a devoted friend and surrogate mum to many, welcomed sharing in their lives, and enjoyed being out and about with them.

She lived a life well loved.

The family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 boul. Des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux on Sunday November 12th 2023 as of 1 pm followed by a life celebration at 3pm.

For those who would like to join the family virtually, you may do so by copying the following link on your browser to our Livestream platform: https://fweb.tv/111717.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that a donation be made to foundations that Audrey held dear to her, such as the Almage Senior Community Centre and the Salvation Army.
