It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Barry Thomas at the age of 79 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Cathy (nee McIntosh), his son Alexander (Shoshana Friedman), daughter Heather, his late son Matthew, and daughter Lauren (Shawn McKenna). His grandchildren Rowan, Gavyn, Fynn, Thomas, Ciaran, Lachlan, and Journey. Predeceased by mother Mildred, Father Harry, and brother Brian. Survived by nephew Michael and many cousins abroad.

Born in Oldham England. He attended Shaw primary and secondary school, followed by a 7 year apprentice program at Avro specializing in aircraft sheet metal. He then went off to sea as a merchant navy officer for BNO, sailing around the world. While stationed in London, met the love of his life, a student nurse, named Catherine. They came to Canada to tie the knot in Dorval, Quebec in 1970. Returned to England to settle in Oldham. After the birth of their first son, Alexander, returned to Canada and bought their first house in Vaudreuil, QC. Barry began working at Air Canada as an aircraft mechanic, where he remained for 28 years. Retiring in 2003, he and Cathy enjoyed their time together travelling to sunny destinations and working on their beautiful garden at home in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Barry will be remembered for his generous nature, always willing to go above and beyond to help his family. An avid gardener, he would spend his sunny days growing tomatoes and garlic in his backyard garden. He was very artistic and made beautiful wood pictures with the marquetry technique. A true handyman, he always had a project going to build or repair something around the house or for someone he knew. Barry loved to play soccer and actually played on a recreational team until he was 52 years old. He had a quick sense of humor that would put a smile on any face. He loved his family dearly and would light up when he saw any of his cherished loved ones. His presence will forever be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

We would like to thank the staff at Hopital du Suroit Valleyfield for their hard work, kindness, and attention to his care during his stay there.

Visitations will be held Thursday, May 2nd at 12:00PM-1:30PM. Followed by a Service from 1:30-2:00. Then the burial in the mausoleum from 2:30-3:00.
