Beatrice Marina Knights
February 11, 1943 – March 9, 2025
Beatrice “Kathleen” Marina Knights, born February 11, 1943 was received by her Lord on the 9th day of March 2025 from stage 5 kidney failure after surviving a quadruple bypass heart surgery in 2021. She is predeceased by her parents Eloise Knights (nee Songui) and George Knights and by her ex-husband and friend Upson Dennis (by 20 days).
She is survived by her four children Dr. Marcia-Lisa, Shelley (Stephane), Saccha (Nicholas), and Martin (Stephanie); the lights of her life, her five grandchildren Vanessa, Jacob, Noah, Isaiah, and Ellis; her sister Sylvia (Bertie); cousins Khafra, Ben, Christopher; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings John, Sam, and Pearl.
She was born in Monte Grande, Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago and was one of 5 children. She was a student at Pamphylian High School. Although her birth name was Beatrice, her sister Pearl gave her the nickname Kathleen which her fiancé Upson later shortened to Kathy that stuck and was used throughout her life. In different circles she is known as Beatrice, Kathleen or Kathy. As a young woman Kathy, enjoyed singing and was a member of the Marionettes which is the most prestigious choir in Trinidad. She didn’t have many vices and she would tell her mother “Mum, I don’t smoke or drink but I like my clothes!” She was always fashionably well dressed for any occasion.
She immigrated to Montreal in 1967 as part of the West Indian Domestic scheme which was an immigration program that brought young women from the Caribbean to apply for residency in Canada between 1955 and 1967. Her fiancé Upson soon followed and they were married on August 17, 1968. Kathy had an entrepreneurial mind and was involved in many different projects over the years such as cosmetology and hairdressing. She worked as an administrative assistant for many years for various organizations but was employed with the International Civil Aviation Organization until her retirement.
She is described as a cheerful person who had an immeasurable love for Jesus and she was a fierce prayer warrior. Her faith sustained her through the very difficult times in her life. A daughter, mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt, great aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A brief visitation will be held at the Rideau Funeral Home | Arbor Memorial Inc. on Sunday March 16, 2025 from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. The funeral mass will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 11:00 am at St Luke’s Parish by Fr. Fred Kirouac and will be livestreamed at this link https://youtube.com/live/vmIRentW_os?feature=share
Reception to follow at 1pm at an announced location.
Interment will be at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery (4601 Chem. de la Côte-des-Neiges - plot V08825) on Tuesday March 18, 2025 at 11:15 am.
