Benedikt “Ben” Branders Petersen
Ben Petersen passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026. Born in Denmark, Ben moved to Montreal as a young child, where he went on to build a full and vibrant life rooted in family, community, and meaningful connections.
He was the beloved son of Knud Petersen (wife Ruth Sonksen) and the late Mary (Bonner) Petersen. Ben was a devoted father to Dominic Leroux‑Petersen (wife Caitlin O’Boyle) and David Leroux‑Petersen (wife Lanni Frankel), and a deeply proud grandfather to Maximillian, Theodore, Alexis, and Emma. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he delighted in spoiling them every chance he had.
Ben is lovingly remembered by his siblings Kathy, Ann, Fiona, and his late brother John (wife Ines), as well as by his cherished nieces and nephews: Jonathan, Nuala, Alice, and Sébastien (wife Rachel Kim).
Family was always at the center of Ben’s life, and his bonds remained strong across generations.
He enjoyed a long and successful career in sales, where his leadership, drive, and natural ability to connect with people left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. Outside of work, Ben embraced life wholeheartedly. He had a deep love for hockey, baseball, fishing, and was always eager for his next adventure or travel experience.
He was an active and devoted member of Dorion Evangelical Church, where his warmth and spirit touched many. Known for hosting unforgettable barbecues, Ben had a remarkable gift for bringing people together with laughter, generosity, and open arms. Above all else, Ben cherished time spent with his family. Whether on epic outings with his sons, meaningful trips with his late wife, or during lively gatherings at home, he created memories that will be treasured forever by those who loved him.
Ben is now reunited with his beloved late wife, Carolyn Torlot.
A burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at Dorion Evangelical Church at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ben’s memory to the Montreal Children's Hospital
Ben will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, resilience, kindness, faith, and unwavering love for his family
