Bernadette was born in Budapest during World War II. Fleeing the continuing turmoil in their native land, her family moved to Canada in 1949. Bernadette attended D'Arcy McGee High School, and graduated from McGill University in 1961. In 1963, she married Charles and moved to Halifax, where their children Anne and Peter were born.

The young family moved back to Montreal in 1969. For the next 22 years, Bernadette taught high school with characteristic joy and energy. Evidence of her enthusiasm - and of her breadth of knowledge - is her coaching of the Marymount High School "Reach for the Top" team. But more important for us, her family, is that during that time, she introduced and welcomed into the family our foster daughter and sister, Monica.
After finishing her teaching career, Bernadette attended the Université de Montréal, where she took enormous pleasure in obtaining a Master’s and PhD in Medieval Studies. She was an excellent writer, and her subsequent book was well-received, with over 100 citations.

Bernadette was extremely devout, and supported many charities. She also wholeheartedly loved and enjoyed people. Those who knew her will never forget her loyalty, friendship and love; her sense of humour, quick-wittedness and intelligence; her zest and generosity; or the fun of being with her.

In addition to Charles and their children, she is survived by her siblings Georges and Hedwig; her grandchildren, Thomas, Sophie, Joseph and Pascale; and her great-grandchild, Samuel. Bernadette's parents were George and Stephanie; her beloved older sister was Mary-Ann.

Bernadette will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity combatting Alzheimer's disease.
