It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Brian Wesley Barter on June 30, 2019 at the West Island Palliative Care Residence.
Brian Barter was a simple man, sincere and straightforward. He was a great sports-lover, an avid swimmer and could remember historical details at the drop of a hat.
His mother Anne Thorburn and father George Barter welcomed their only son into the world on November 28, 1947 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was raised in Fredericton, attending York Street School and then Fredericton High School. After the passing of his father, he moved with his mother to Montreal where he spent the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his two older sisters, Carol Benson and Patricia Ghauri as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, loving cousins and friends.
Brian enjoyed the outdoors, taking long walks and frequently visiting the Gaspe coast where he spent many summers with his Uncle John and Aunt Betty in New Richmond. He could always be found with his trusty binoculars in hand and a comfortable pair of jeans and sneakers. For many years his greatest joy was riding the trains in Montreal which also led him to one of his best friends, Ron.
Brian often made Google seem expendable with his amazing ability to recall sports stats and historical information. He brought laughter to his nieces and nephews' lives with his ever-famous "tickle bug."
His neighbours remember him as a good man that you could always count on for great company and conversation.
He was honoured at a special memorial service held at the Salon Funeraire Rideau in Dollard-des-Ormeaux. He is laid to rest in the town of his birth, Fredericton, next to his loving parents.
