Ernest Bruce Washer, son of the late Ernest Washer and Elizabeth Washer (née Brayton), died peacefully at home with family by his side, in the house he built with his wife, on Friday July 2, 2021 after 8 years of living with leukemia.
Bruce grew up in Verdun, boating, hunting and fishing on the St Lawrence River. He worked for almost six decades with Dominion Engineering (Valmet/Metso), retiring as a world-renowned specialist in the paper mill industry. A committed and hardworking member of his community over the years, he was most notably a highly respected council member, hockey coach and volunteer fireman in Terrasse-Vaudreuil and a partner of Norwood Lodge in Harrington.
A devoted family man, he is survived and will be sorely missed by his wife of 65 years, Sheila (née Thompson), children Beth (Martin), Bob (Wanda), Jim (Mirjam), Doug (Kim); grandchildren Sophie (Jeremy), Robbie (Ana-Rita), Matthew (Marjolaine), Sonja (Fred), Steven (Kim), Sabah, David, Meaghan, Bailey; great-grandchildren Evelyne, Cédrick, Emery, Lara, Rafaela; sister Clarice Bergman (the late Norman), nephew Michael (Chien-Chi), niece Lorna (Greg), and great nieces and nephews Samantha, Benji, Steven, Julia; brother-in-law Alan Thompson.
He will be fondly remembered as a wonderful father and Poppa.
The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at le CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest and l’Hôpital du Suroît in Valleyfield for their compassionate and dedicated care. A special thank you to Tom Koeser for his friendship and support over the many years.
Sadly, due to COVID restrictions, the funeral will be a private event for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood so that others may benefit.
