Carol Joyce Boone
September 2, 1945 - September 16, 2016
Carol J. Boone (nee Devaney) passed away peacefully on Friday, September 16th, 2016 at Passamaquoddy Lodge in St. Andrews, NB after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born September 2nd, 1945 in Montréal, QC and is the daughter of Abe and Daisy Weinstein (nee Smallcombe).
She was predeceased by her dear brother William (Bill) Devaney of Brockville, ON. Carol is survived by her husband John, her parents Daisy and Abe in Dollard des Ormeaux, her son Kenneth (Dima and grandson Zayne) in Montreal, her daughter Allison (Darryl and granddaughter Ella) in Témiscaming and her sister-in-law Sandra (nieces Claire and April) in Brockville, ON.
Carol was a passionate teacher for 40 years and had a special way of getting through to her students. Many of her elementary school students remember her fondly from her days at Six Nations in Kanesatake and Moutainview in Two Mountains.
She then worked for the Western Quebec School Board as a Principal in Val d'Or but ultimately returned to teaching at the Pierre Janet Hospital in Gatineau. She took on the challenge of teaching children with developmental disorders such as autism and ADD, a testament to her ability to get through to the kids and her desire to help, especially those who needed it most.
Her other great passion was singing and she was a devout member of the Sweet Adelines chorus in Montreal and later in Ottawa. One of her biggest thrills was going to the international competitions often times in the company of her mother Daisy.
Her greatest love of all was for her children Ken and Ali and our biggest regret is that she never had a chance to enjoy her grandchildren Ella and Zayne.
Carol will be greatly missed by her many cousins, relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held in on Saturday, October 1st, 2016 at 1:00 PM at:
Rideau Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home
4275 Sources Boulevard
Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC
H9B 2A6
Visitation will be from 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
