It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Czesława Bęben on December 26, 2024.
Czesława will be deeply missed by her daughter Elżbieta (Krzysztof), her son Leszek (Stenia), her grandchildren Natalia (Arun) and Dawid (Vicki), and her cherished great-grandchildren William, Henry, Eleanor, and Carter.
Born in Suliszów, Poland, Czesława was one of seven siblings. She was predeceased by her husband Eugeniusz, her parents, and her siblings. She is survived by her sister and numerous relatives in Poland.
In 1984, Czesława emigrated to Canada to join her daughter and family. A devoted mother and grandmother, she lived with her family and played an integral role in raising her grandchildren, Dawid and Natalia. Her love, pride, and devotion extended across generations, and in recent years she delighted in bringing joy and laughter to her great-grandchildren.
From 1994 to 2019, she resided at the Canadian Polish Manor in Winnipeg, where she made many friendships and memories. As President of the Social Committee, she helped organize events for her community. She was also an active member of the Women’s Catholic League and dedicated many years volunteering at Holy Ghost Parish.
In 2019, she moved to Montreal to be closer to her family. Known for her unwavering commitment to her daily walks—regardless of the weather—she became a beloved presence in her neighbourhood, sharing smiles, conversations, and humour that transcended language barriers.
Czesława will be remembered for her captivating storytelling, sense of humour, and boundless determination. Her absence will be profoundly felt, but her legacy of love and laughter will endure in the hearts of those who loved her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, nurses, and medical staff at the CHSLD Polonais Marie Curie Skłodowska for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Czesława during her final weeks.
