Anthony Hillary D’Costa
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Anthony Hillary D’Costa passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
In 1975, Anthony made the courageous decision to immigrate to Canada, where he built a life rooted in hard work, devotion, and deep commitment to family. He carried with him the values of resilience and determination, creating a home filled with strength, tradition, and unwavering love. Anthony was the beloved husband of 49 years to Winona D’Costa (née Mendonça), his cherished Winnie. Their marriage was a testament to loyalty, partnership, and enduring love. Together they built a family that became his proudest accomplishment.
He is survived by his three daughters: Tamara (Nick), Talia (Shawn), and Taleetha (Anthony), who were the light of his life. He was a proud grandfather to Adriana, Ethan, Nathan, Daniella, Matteo, and Layla, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Anthony was deeply loved by his siblings and their spouses: late Joe (Julie), late Josephine, late Barbara (late Peter), Hedy (Robert), Stella (late Bernard), and Greg (Pushpa), along with many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear family friends whose lives he touched in countless ways.
Anthony dedicated over 40 years of service to Royal Bank of Canada and later Symcor. He was known for his exceptional work ethic, precision, and steadfast reliability. His long career was a reflection of his loyalty and sense of responsibility; qualities that defined both his professional and personal life. He had a lifelong love of sports, especially cricket and field hockey, which connected him to his roots. He was a dedicated player of the Montreal United Field Hockey Club, a devoted fan of the West Indies cricket team and the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey team, rarely missing a game and proudly cheering on his teams each season.
Anthony will be remembered for his steadfast dedication to his family, his quiet strength, and the legacy of love and perseverance he leaves behind. His memory will live on in the stories shared around family tables, in the values he instilled, and in the generations who carry his spirit forward.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence, whose compassionate care ensured that Anthony was comfortable and able to pass with dignity and grace. Alternatively, volunteering at the centre may also be an impactful option.
