Dave passed peacefully with his loving wife of 66 years Diane, by his side. His bright smile, generous heart and sincere kindness will be missed by family and friends alike.
His children (Andy, Sue, Mike) will miss their father’s loving way, as will their spouses (Julie, Robert, Cathy). Loved for being a wonderful grandfather (“Papa”) to Robert Jr. (Emily), Alexdy, David James (Meghan), Kendra, Bella, Geneva, Tovah, Sadie, Lilah, William and great-grandfather to Maddie. Brother-in-law to a few but a beloved Uncle to many, his welcoming nature and wisdom will be missed at family gatherings in the future.
Born in Toronto, Dave lived a full life of which football was a big part. His career began at Balmy Beach Club in Toronto, then playing for Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen where he achieved All Canadian. He then moved to Montreal to play for the Alouettes (1959- 1962). Once done on the gridiron, he moved into the role of coach at Sir George Williams and Université de Montreal. Dave was President of the Alouette Alumni for several years. He also attained a blackbelt in Judo.
After retirement he volunteered at Ste. Anne’s Veteran’s Hospital for 25 years, enjoyed wood-working and spending time in nature.
So many lessons were learned from having Dave in our lives. One we’ll hold onto now and into the future is his understanding that creating memories with those you love is the real gift of life.
A Celebration of Life will be organized at a future date.
