Dieter Havlena

March 29, 1943 - March 21, 2018

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dieter Havlena on March 21, 2018, a few days shy of his 75th birthday. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Shaffiah (Ishmael), his sons Wayne (Debbie) and Michael (late Nasrin). He was a proud Opa to Tyler, Kyle and Amy. He will be deeply missed by his family in Germany, including his mother, brothers and sister, as well as his brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nephews, nieces and friends in and around Montreal, as well as in Ontario and the US. A heartfelt thank you to Herb and Heidi for all their help and kindness during the past few months.

Dieter was born in Germany in 1943 and came to Canada in 1962 without knowing English or French. He was a talented mechanic by trade and a shrewd business man. He owned several companies, including many automotive dealerships in Montreal. In retirement, Dieter had great pleasure working on his cars, making and sharing his wine and ensuring he had a perfectly manicured lawn. He also enjoyed going to the beach and spending time with their countless friends in Punta Cana, away from the harsh Canadian winter.

The family will receive condolences at the Rideau Funeral Home on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 6-9pm and Saturday, March 31, 2018 as of 10am. The service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11am with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated (http://www.heartandstroke.ca/).
