It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dirk Eerdmans at the age of 87.

In his 88th year, Dirk passed away peacefully in his Pointe Claire home. Our loving and faithful father found joy in the simple things in life. He will be greatly missed by his children: Derek, Helena (Michael), Paula (Patrick); grandchildren: Joshua (Megan), Andrew (Elise), James (Heather), Anna, Connor and Casey; his great-grandchild: Theodore; and his siblings: Douwe (Netty), Ada, (Rike), Jessie, Martha (Ed), Ben (Dicky), Jantien (Ans), Gerda (Willemien). Dirk was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Anne (neé Wiersema, May 22, 1944 – August 29, 1999); his parents, Jacob Dirk and Hillina Eerdmans from Bolsward, The Netherlands; his siblings: (Bram), Jaap, (Agnes), Reinder (Mieke).

Dirk was born at home in Bolsward, The Netherlands in 1936, as the firstborn of 10 children. His young formative years occurred during the Second World War. After completing his Dutch military service, he immigrated to Canada on April 1, 1959, having transferred jobs from Jaguar Netherlands to Jaguar Canada. Dirk worked as a parts manager in the auto industry for most of his career. He enjoyed assisting those in need, volunteered with Boy Scouts Canada, and upon retirement, gave his time helping others in many ways including Meals on Wheels. He was an avid bridge player, participating and organizing many bridge clubs in the West Island. He never forgot his roots, travelling back to Holland often to enjoy visiting family.

As a family, we are grateful to all the medical caregivers who assisted in Dirk’s final days, and to the Residence Maywood that made the last 3 years of Dirk’s life fun and memorable.

If you would like to pay your respects, visitation is on Sunday, December 3rd, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and the Funeral will take place on Monday, December 4th, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Both events will be at the First Christian Reformed Church of Montreal (52 Rue Joseph Paiement, Dollard-des-Ormeaux).

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dirk’s memory may be gratefully given to Canadian Cancer Society or the First Christian Reformed Church of Montreal (https://www.montrealcrc.org/).
