<div itemprop="description"><br>It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Opa, uncle, friend and respected member of the community, Dirk (Dick) Van Egmond on May 23, 2017 in his 93rd year. <br><br>Born to a family of Tulip bulb cultivators, Dirk left his native Holland in 1950 and pursued his passion for growing in his new home – Canada. Since 1956, Edgewood Greenhouses was a legacy of which he was immensely proud. It symbolized his expertise, hard work, dedication and passion. <br><br>Those who knew Dirk will remember him as a true gentleman, with strong values, who loved his family, his work, and in earlier years, a good round of golf.<br><br>Predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Toos, as well as his siblings; Nic (Nel), Jan (Catherine), Jans (Gerhard), Corrie (Joop), Daan (Catherine), Cas, and Piet (Dorothy). He is survived by his brother’s wife, Hennie, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and extended family in Holland. Left with happy memories are his children Corinne (Rick), Catherine (Peter), Dan (Sheryl) and Murray (Heidi), his grandchildren Jessica (Marc), Eric, Tim, Nicholas, Zachary, Edison and Michael. He leaves behind the Edgewood staff with whom he worked alongside for so many years, the Montreal West United Church community, and many others whose lives he touched over the years. <br><br>The family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home, on Sunday, May 28th, 2017 from 2 to 5PM and 7 to 9PM. A service celebrating Dirk’s life will be held at Montreal West United Church, corner of Westminster North and Curzon in Montreal West on Monday, May 29th, 2017 at 11 AM.<br></div>
