He will be deeply missed by his friends Vic and Eleanor Clifford, Pierre Vallée, Karen Breckenridge, Glen Lafleur ,Ron Banks, Don Urquhart and Bob and Draha Pick.
Don started his career with the Dollard-des-Ormeaux fire department in the fall of 1972 and was promoted to lieutenant in a few short years. He spent close to 30 years working in a career he loved. He made life long friendships in the department and with the volunteer firemen.
Upon his retirement he joined the St. Anicet volunteer fire department as chief for 14 years.
Don also spent many years teaching LP Gas at the North Country International Fire School then was on the board of directors.
Family time was spent at the cottage in St. Anicet with family and friends . It became home to Don and Cheryl in retirement. They got to enjoy over 20 years of living there before relocating back to the West Island.
In his spare time Don enjoyed hunting and fishing. In the mid 80s he started volunteering with Shimano at their sponsored bass tournaments across Quebec and Ontario. He was an integral part of their live release fishing program. He made many friends working the tournaments and sportsmen shows. He earned the nickname “Vern” from Tom Brooke and it stuck with him throughout the decades.
The family would like to thank Terry at Age in Motion who worked to keep Don mobile and PSW Susan Collins who worked with him and his late wife Cheryl and became family.
The family is indebted to Bose, James and extended staff at Residence Connemara who treated him with respect and compassion during his time living there. A big thank you to the late Doreen who made him his favourite meals and would sneak him treats.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Don’s memory to the following charities :
