It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Louise Gooding (Straker) on February 7, 2024 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, at the age of 90.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of 69 years, Lester St.Clair Gooding, her children Wayne (Nadya), Susan, Debbie, Dawn, and Jason (Romanie), her grandchildren Shari-Ann (Wes), Charity, Nina (Zach), Trevor, Kathleen, Marc, Erin, Michael, Kenny, Justin, Vivian and Luke, as well as her great grandchildren Seth, Juliette, Zoey, Atticus, Bailey, Dawson, Knox, Anthony and another expected grand child. She leaves behind sisters Rosie, Jeanette, Linda, Alexis, and brothers David, James, and David, as well as many more relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Otho and her sister Gloria.

Dorothy was born on the beautiful island of Barbados in 1933, and grew up in the warm embrace of her family and her many brothers and sisters. In 1956 she and her husband Lester set out on a great adventure, leaving friends and family behind to start a new life in Canada. Many soon followed suit, and Dorothy and Lester spent their early years together welcoming friends and family into their homes throughout Montreal. As families grew up together, unbreakable bonds were forged over an endless flow of food, drinks, laughter and love. They spent 36 wonderful years in their family home in Kirkland before moving to Vaudreuil in November of 2023.

She will be remembered for her strength and her beauty, her generosity, her strong principles, her faith, and her ninja-like skills with a coucou stick! But most important was her unwavering love of her family. Through her fabulous cooking, she loved and nourished her children. Christmas dinner was always over the top, featuring not only turkey, but also ham, pork, duck, rice and peas, gravy, stuffing, potato salad, green salad, sweet potatoes, and for dessert coconut bread, black cake, cookies, chocolates and so much more.

Family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home on Sunday, February 18th at noon, with a service at 1pm, followed by a reception at 2pm.

4275, boul. des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux QC CA, H9B 2A6

Closest family and friends are welcome to attend the burial on Monday, February 19th at 11am.
