We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Dorothy Gransden who died quietly in her sleep at the age of 100. At the age of 99 she beat Covid, but at last she just felt it was time to go.

Dot was born in Montreal and grew up along Gouin Blvd. in Saraguay. She went to teacher’s school at MacDonald College, and taught school in Cartierville. She met her husband, Max, while hosteling, and often talked of their early bicycle trips through New Hampshire, Cape Cod, Washington, D.C., and Niagara Falls. When they started a family, they moved to their new house in Pointe Claire, and she lived there until 2019. She loved exercising, square dancing, gardening, sewing, and bridge and was active in the church, the quilting group and the YMCA until last year. For almost 30 years she joined Susan and her family for their three-week vacation on Sanibel Island and had many good friends there as well.

Dot had friends all over. She was independent, but patient, kind and supportive, and always looked on the bright side. Her twinkling blue eyes and cheery smile were noticed by all she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband Max Moore Gransden (1920-1975) and survived by her kids Susan (Richard), David, and Bob, and her grandchildren: Andrew (Darci), Jennifer, and Gillian (Ron).

Many thanks to all the friends who helped her and allowed her to live independently on Charles Avenue until she was 99, and to all the staff and caregivers at the Maxwell Residence where she spent the last year and a half of her life. Your kindness is so very much appreciated.

Funeral to take place at Rideau Memorial Gardens, 4275 Boul. Des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux on Saturday, March 20 at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at noon at the Field of Honour in Pointe Claire. Please RSVP if you want to attend the funeral in person since places are limited due to Covid. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

You may also attend the service from home using the following link: http://www.livememorialservices.com/Home/ServiceDetail/11680

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to Valois United Church (valoisunited.ca) or to a charity of your choice.
