It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Douglas Robert Ferrier Burns announces his recent passing on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband to the late Margaret (nee Wells), father, grandfather, and friend. Doug spent his final days surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his partner Viktoria Wagner, children Michael (France), Stephen (Liliane), Douglas Jr. (Donna), and Angela (Ian), his grandchildren; Shaun (Stephanie), Marissa (Andrew), Alexandra, Vanessa, Jamie, Ryan, Elizabeth, Julianna and Cristella, and his sisters Margaret Dempsey and Allison Scott.

He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Doug was born in Montreal, raised and educated in Ottawa, and spent his adult life living and working in the Montreal area. He studied at both Queens University, and McGill University where he achieved his C.A. (Chartered Accountant) designation while with McDonald, Currie & Co, with the majority of his career spent working with Seagram’s.

He was a true warrior of the healthcare system in Montreal, both as a (frequently) recurring patient (including receiving a heart transplant in 1994), and as a vigorous supporter through his volunteering work, having been elected Chair for multiple non-profit boards (including the MUHC Patients’ Committee and the MUHC Foundation’s Dialytran Fund) for which his family remain exceedingly proud.

The family would like to share its gratitude with the many doctors, nurses, technicians, and other hospital staff at the MUHC (McGill University Health Centre), Montreal General Hospital, and Jewish General Hospital – who have helped Doug immensely throughout his numerous healthcare challenges – as well as the dedicated team at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence for all of the generous care and support provided.

All are invited to celebrate Doug’s life on October 27 - 28th, at Rideau Funeral Home (4239 Boul. Des Sources, DDO, H9B 2A6) as follows:

• Thu, Oct. 27: Visitation: 7pm - 9pm
• Fri, Oct. 28: Visitation: 10am / Funeral Service: 11am / Reception: 12pm - 2pm
• Live streaming of funeral (please copy and paste)- https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/62981

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MUHC Foundation's Dialytran Fund, and/or the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence Foundation.
