<div itemprop="description">The gale force winds that hovered around Elizabeth Jolan (Kara) Sands for over 100 years shifted to a whisper on September 16, 2026 at St. Anne Hospital (Sainte Anne de Bellevue, QC) after a courageous 5 year battle from Alzheimers.<br><br>As per Elizabeth's (Betty) wishes private visitation will be held on September 25, 2026, 10am at Rideau Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4239 Boulevard des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc with burial on September 30, 2026, 10am.<br><br>Betty was born in Velki, Czechoslovakia on June 16, 1926 to Julia and Steve Kara. Betty was the oldest of three siblings (Gisele (Grace) and Julius (Jay)). Betty's favorite pastime activities included camping (37 years in Peru NY), a top notch shopping enthusiast, spinning yarn thread into doilies and slippers of all shapes and sizes. She was a devoted member of the Hungarian United Church and will also be fondly remembered for her famous homemade cabbage rolls, lovingly made for family and friends throughout the years.<br> <br>Betty is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 57 years (James) , her parents (Julia & Steve), her brother (Julius (Jay) and her brother-in-law Julius (Jay).<br><br>Betty is survived by her son Edward (Mary), her granddaughter Julia (Jon), grandson Stephen, and great granddaughter Charlotte along with her sister Grace and niece Karen (Tim), and loving extended family members (Mark and Kara).<br><br>In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made either to Alzheimer Society of Canada or to Sainte-Anne Hospital.<br><br>The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Sainte Anne Hospital for their unwavering support and dedication to Elizabeth during her stay. Their care and kindness brought comfort to Betty and her family during a difficult time. <br><br>Betty will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her love of family, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our memories.</div>
