It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Cahoon Lesar, who peacefully left us on August 25, 2025. Born to Irish parents on August 21, 1931, Elizabeth was raised in Belfast, NI and later immigrated to Canada at the age of 16 with her parents and siblings, Jean (d.2024) and Howard (d.1994). She would later attend Central Baptist Seminary in Toronto, where she made lifelong friendships and where she met her husband, Daniel.
Known for her deep faith in Jesus, quiet kindness, her warmth, and her love of reading, Elizabeth touched the lives of all who knew her. She loved to read her bible, loved music, knitting and singing in the church choir, sitting with friends over a “cuppa tea” and playing board games. Elizabeth was pre-deceased by her beloved Daniel, in 2014, after nearly 60 years of marriage. Together they lived a happy life of service through their bookstore, the Christian Book Depot, and as pillars in each of the churches they attended, the latest being Eglise Baptiste Evangélique Emmanuel. They created a warm home that welcomed all, always keeping an extra place ready at their table.
Elizabeth will be dearly missed by her loving children, Ruth-Anne and Dorothy and her son-in-law, Allan, who was by her side at her time of passing. She loved her cherished grandchildren, Sabine (Miles), Stephanie (Edward), Meghan (Maxim) Lianne, Aidan, and Annika, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jonah, Ezekiel and Eleonora.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Bayview for their attentive care and kindness towards “Liz” in her final years. We are so grateful for you.
A visitation will take place at Rideau Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
There will be a graveside service at Lakeview Memorial Gardens at 11:00am on Thursday, September 4, 2025 for family and friends.
