She was an only child, and always wanted a large family because of that. She took piano lessons, studied art and worked for a short time before raising her family of 6.
She spent much of her life surrounded by the animals and landscapes she loved.

Horses, cats and dogs were constant sources of joy for her, and she found peace in the routines and rhythms of Sandridge Farm. Horseback riding, dog walking and taking care of both the house and barn cats occupied most of Betty's time. Helping Bob aound the farm was also a big part of her agenda. Bob and Betty also traveled to many places in the world together.
