It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Else Haerens (nee Vermeyden).
Else was born in The Netherlands, grew up in Belgium, and later emigrated to Canada with her husband and their three children.
She will be dearly missed by her husband Raynold Haerens, her brother Hans Vermeyden (Cynthia Homan), her sister-in-law Nancy (Arnold Friedman), her children Norman (Evvy Bures), Alaric (Colleen Jackson), and Sandrine Haerens, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Tristan and Melody Haerens, Tony Haerens, and Oriane Deloy.
Else was a cultured person, an avid reader, multilingual, and enjoyed traveling to the beaches of Maine and Spain. Many vacations were enjoyed on their sailboat. Else worked in various companies in the Montreal area, in inside sales and translation. In her retirement, she became the president of the Dollard-des-Ormeaux seniors club where she and Raynold joined the singing and dancing groups and additionally participated in various courses.
Else forged enduring friendships wherever she went due to her kind and supportive disposition. “Grand-Maman” welcomed an active role in the life of her grandchildren, taking them to the movies, skating, and having them at their home for sleepovers.
Above all, Else loved her family deeply and was a loyal friend to many. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her sense of humor, and her generosity.
As Else requested, there will be no formal service.
