It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather Fotios Papageorgiou on 15 February 2024 at Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, at the age of 83.

He will be deeply missed by his children Vivian, Anastasia, John and his grandchildren Foti, Demetri, Christina, Kanella and Christina, as well as his brothers and sisters both here and in Greece plus many more relatives, friends and colleagues.

He grew up in the village of Pournaria, Greece. He came to Canada in 1969.

He worked in any job he could find to help support his family, and later got a job in a fish market which he enjoyed until he decided to open up his own store years later which became like a second home to him. He got to know his customers that came by weekly and most even daily. He became so attached to his customers over the years, they became extended family.

He loved to go to the store just to see everyone, he refused to retire and just stay home.

He always said: "The day I stop working is when I will die, I need to keep busy and to interact with everyone. No one really comes by the house but many of the people I love to see daily come by the store".

He will be remembered for giving samples of smoked salmon to everyone coming into his store. He gave to many charities and fund raisers, he loved to help but never expected anything in return.

We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and all the staff of the ICU of the Jewish General Hospital for your support and for your care.

Family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home on February 22nd 2024.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name to the charity of your choice at either the Jewish General Hospital or the Greek Orthodox Church of Saints Constantine and Helen.
