Gabriel-Mihail Iliescu died unexpectedly December 18, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was only 64 years old. The family is shocked and saddened by his sudden death. Gaby, as everyone knows him, was born November 12, 1961.
Gaby is deeply missed by his loving wife Maria-Cristina of over 26 years; and his children Andrew-Nicholas and Matthew-Alexander (Laurianne). His memory will be cherished forever. He was the pillar of his family and the person that would do anything to keep his family happy.
Born and raised in Bucharest, Romania where he met his wife, Cristina. In 1992, he decided to join his father’s family (Boghen) and move to Montreal. In 1996 his wife followed. The greatest joy and pride came from his 2 boys. He was the first to encourage them in any adventure they wanted to pursue and the first to share his pride with anyone when they achieved their goals.
Gaby had many professions throughout his life. He graduated from The University of Roads and Bridges in Bucharest as a civil engineer. Once he moved to Montreal, was able to pursue his real passion, computer engineering at UQAM. He worked as electrical technician Jam Ind., quality control technician at Averna and technician in aviation equipment at Thales where he made many friends.
Gaby had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He was an avid gardener. Every year he cradles seeds into plants and harvest fruits and vegetables. For him every tomato, red pepper and a bowl of blackberry or strawberries was an amazing achievement. He put a lot of effort into building his own vegetable and herb garden in the home backyard and he prides himself on improving it every year. He was also proud to share the fruit and vegetables harvest with everyone. Beside the garden, he was always interested in Romanian traditional meat delicatessen, and he was known for his sausages and cold cuts that made the delight of every Christmas dinner.
He was very proud to see both his boys wearing the “Lord Strathcona” medal awarded for their outstanding performance, leadership and dedication in the cadet’s program. He lived to see Andrew becoming a survival instructor and Matthew flying his first plane.
His family will never forget the camping trips made together every summer. His sons regret not asking for his camping morning omelet recipe.
Gaby was never scared to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and integrity. He had very strong values and was liked by everyone due to his positive energy. He always enjoyed a party, a good drink and loved to have friends and family around the table.
His legacy will carry on reminding us that we control our attitudes.
Although Gaby’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will always be with us.
We are currently making funeral plans Further details will be shared soon.
