Gary Joseph THOMAS (nee Lehtisalo)

(May 1946 - January 2018)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Thomas on January 8, 2018. After a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer, Gary achieved his wish to die peacefully at his cherished home, his loving wife Joanne by his side, his family and his dogs close by. Gary was an active, athletic individual. He fulfilled many roles throughout his life: teacher, principal, hockey player, dog-trainer and competition judge to name a few. However, the ones he felt were most important, involved his family: loving husband, father and grand-father. Gary was a model for the saying “a gentleman and a scholar”. He is survived by his wife and partner in life Joanne (Donato); by his daughters Jennifer-Lee and Tracy-Ann Thomas. Beloved Papa to Euan and Gavin Martin and to Avery Thomas. Cherished by his sister Brenda (Maurice Lacroix). He is predeceased by his father Mikka Lehtisalo, step-father Kitchener David Thomas, his mother Denise Charron, and his mother-in-law Norma (Webber) Donato. Gary embraced and was embraced by the large family he married into. He will be deeply missed by his father-in-law Paul Donato, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Carole and Alexander Brown, Richard and Carol Donato and his nieces and nephews. Gary will be missed not only by his family but by his many dear friends.

Visitation will be held at Rideau Funeral Home 4275 Sources Blvd, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC H9B 2A6 514 685-3344 www.rideaumemorial.com on Sunday January 14, 2018 from 5:00pm - 9:00pm. A memorial and small reception will take place at Rideau Funeral Home on Monday January 15, 2018 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Rosie Animal Adoption or to a charity of your choice would be deeply appreciated.
