<div itemprop="description">It is with great sadness that the family of Gérald A. Laurin announce his death on April 25th, 2024 at The Neuro Hospital in Montreal. At his bedside were his dear wife of 47 years Geraldine (Pograniczny) and his loving daughter Ginette Chesick. <br> <br>Gérald is survived by Ginette and her husband Ron Chesick. Grand children Sandra, and her husband Dave, Eric, and his wife Florence and Natalie, great grandchildren, Benjamin, Cy, Samantha, Leo and Nolan. <br> <br>Gérald was predeceased by sister, Jacqueline, and more recently by his brother Roger. Mourning his loss are also Roger's wife Huguette and their children, Sylvie Laurin, J.F Laurin and his wife Nancy (Geoffroy), Pierre and his wife France and Natalie (Laurin)) and her husband, Pierre Bissonnette. There are numerous cousins, nieces, and friends in Canada and the United States who are saddened to learn of Gérald's death. <br> <br>At a very early age, Gérald's mother, Antoinette Lalonde noticed that his drawings were quite good; so Madame Lalonde searched out an art teacher for him. This unknown lady, gave Gérald the basic skills that set him off on what was to become a lifelong affair with art...with painting! <br> <br>By the time he graduated from McGill University in 1955 he transitioned to oil painting. With an earned degree in Civil Engineering, Gérald was ready to pursue his new love "Bridges". He was quickly hired by Dominion Bridge but never gave up painting...always "en pleine air." <br> <br>No, matter where he traveled, there was an extra piece of luggage carrying his painting materials. Even on his honeymoon, there came an extra piece of luggage! <br> <br>Gérald's commitment to engineering never faltered. He was elected President of the Montreal Construction Association, Vice President of the Quebec Provincial Canadian Construction Association and very often invited to be a key note speaker at conferences/seminars all related to engineering. <br> <br>With time, Gérald expanded his skills and interests in painting, which led him to seek out renowned artists such as the late Canadian artist Harold Charles Boyes and the late American artist Charles Movalli. Gérald also attended workshops in Charlevoix Quebec, Cape Ann Massachusetts, the Adirondacks in New York State. In retirement Gerald took painting classes in the water color and oil mediums. He was founder and President of the Artists Association of Dollard des Ormeaux, past President of the Montreal Art Association and a juried member of the Sharon Art Association in New Hampshire USA. <br> <br>Gérald Antoine Laurin, was a many faceted "Diamond". Gérald could speak for hours about bridges and quickly switch to painting or scuba diving. <br>In his 92 years, this diamond in the rough was a water colorist, an oil painter, a teacher of art technique, an expert alpine skier, a master scuba diver, Eagle Scout, expert photographer and in the last few years, a model train engineer. Least we forget, a gourmet cook and so much more. <br> <br>Before his passing, Gérald would say, "It ain't over till the Fat Lady Sings". Sadly, the Fat Lady has sung. Gérald was proud of his accomplishments and rightly so. He has left us a rich legacy of his colorful life! <br> <br>Visitation will be held at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Blvd. des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Québec H9B 2A6 on Friday May 17th, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Veronica's Church, 1300 Avenue Carson, Dorval, Québec H9S 1M6 on Saturday May 18th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. <br> <br>In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to St Thérèse of the Little Flower. À son chevet se trouvaient sa chère épouse depuis 47 ans, Geraldine (Pograniczny) et sa fille bien-aimée, Ginette Chesick. <br> <br>Outre son épouse, Gérald laisse dans le deuil sa fille Ginette (son époux Ron Chesick), ses petits-enfants : Sandra (son époux Dave), Eric (son épouse Florence) et Natalie, ses arrière-petits-enfants : Benjamin, Cy, Samantha, Leo et Nolan. <br> <br>Gérald a été précédé par sa sœur Jacqueline, et plus récemment par son frère Roger. <br> <br>Il laisse également l'épouse de feu son frère Roger, Huguette, et leurs enfants : Sylvie Laurin, J.F. Laurin (son épouse Nancy Geoffroy), Pierre (son épouse France) et Natalie Laurin (son époux Pierre Bissonnette), ses nombreux cousin(e)s, neveux et nièces et des amis au Canada et aux États-Unis qui sont attristés d'apprendre le décès de Gérald. <br> <br>Très jeune, la mère de Gérald, Antoinette Lalonde, a remarqué que ses dessins étaient plutôt bons; alors madame Lalonde lui chercha un professeur d'art. Cette dame inconnue a donné à Gérald les compétences de base qui l'ont lancé dans ce qui allait devenir une aventure de toute une vie avec l’art… avec la peinture! <br> <br>Au moment où il obtient son diplôme de l'Université McGill en 1955, il passe à la peinture à l'huile. Avec un diplôme en génie civil, Gérald était prêt à poursuivre sa nouvelle passion pour les ponts. Il a été rapidement embauché par Dominion Bridge mais n'a jamais abandonné la peinture... toujours en plein air. <br> <br>Peu importe où il voyageait, il avait un bagage supplémentaire, transportant son matériel de peinture. Même pendant sa lune de miel! <br> <br>L'engagement de Gérald envers l'ingénierie n’a jamais faibli. Il a été élu président de l'Association de la construction de Montréal, vice-président de l'Association canadienne de la construction du Québec et très souvent invité à être conférencier principal lors de conférences/séminaires tous liés à l'ingénierie. <br> <br>Au fil du temps, Gérald a élargi ses compétences et ses intérêts pour la peinture, ce qui l'a amené à rechercher des artistes de renom tels que le regretté artiste canadien Harold Charles Boyes et le regretté artiste américain Charles Movalli. Gérald a également participé à des ateliers à Charlevoix au Québec, à Cape Ann au Massachusetts et dans les Adirondacks de l'État de New York. <br> <br>À la retraite, Gérald a suivi des cours de peinture à l'aquarelle et à l'huile. Il a été fondateur et président de l'Association des artistes de Dollard-des-Ormeaux, ancien président de la Montreal Art Association et membre du jury de la Sharon Art Association du New Hampshire aux États-Unis. <br> <br>Gérald Antoine Laurin, était un « Diamant » aux multiples facettes. Gérald pouvait parler pendant des heures de ponts et passer rapidement à la peinture ou à la plongée sous-marine. <br> <br>Au cours de ses 92 ans, ce diamant brut a été aquarelliste, peintre à l'huile, professeur de technique artistique, skieur alpin expert, maître plongeur, Eagle Scout, photographe expert et, ces dernières années, ingénieur de trains miniatures. De plus, il était un cuisinier gastronomique et bien plus encore. <br> <br> <br>Avant son décès, Gérald disait : « It ain’t over till the Fat Lady Sings ». Malheureusement, la grosse dame a chanté. Gérald était fier de ses réalisations et avec raison. Il nous a laissé un riche héritage de sa vie colorée! <br> <br>La famille recevra les condoléances le vendredi 17 mai 2024 de 15 h à 17 h et de 19 h à 21 h à la Maison funéraire Rideau, 4275, boul. des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux. <br> <br>Les funérailles auront lieu à l'église Saint Veronica, 1300, avenue Carson, Dorval, Québec H9S 1M6 le samedi 18 mai 2024 à 11 h. <br> <br>Au lieu de fleurs, un don peut être fait à la Société de la Petite Fleur (1-800-922-7622) ca.littleflower.org ou la Société canadienne du cancer.</div>
