It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Giovanni (John) Bastone on October 24, 2024, at the age of 93, in Dollard-des-Ormeaux. John was a devoted family man, a talented craftsman, and a hardworking provider who leaves a legacy of love, dedication, and resilience.
Born in November 1930, John would have celebrated his 94th birthday this November. He was predeceased by his parents, Luigi and Rachele Bastone, brothers Anthony and Frank, sisters Rose and Theresa and beloved wife, Maria Bastone, and son, Joey. John will be deeply missed by his children Daniel (Phyllis) Bastone, Mary Ann (Glenn) Spriggs, and Joseph Bastone; grandchildren, Steven, Matthew, Kevin, and Adam; brother in laws, Michele and Albert, sister in laws, Nella and Louise; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and longtime friends.
John dedicated his life to his family and his work, having been both a skilled baker and a successful butcher and business owner. His hands crafted breads, baked goods, cured meats, homemade wine and sausage, always sharing the bounty of his talents with those he loved. His passion for gardening brought him joy, and his home was often surrounded by the fruits of his labor, providing for and nurturing his family in every way he knew.
John’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever be grateful for his love, kindness, and example.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice in John's memory, honoring his legacy of kindness and generosity.
