Gordon passed away peacefully at the Lakeshore General Hospital January 27th 2021 leaving behind his beloved wife Mary.

Gordon’s life journey started in Melita, Manitoba, born to Sarah Hall and Edward Thompson 1922 followed by his “kid brother” Jack (deceased)

Gordon enlisted in the RCAF for WW11 in 1943 and was stationed with the RAF in Snitterfield, England 1944 and thus began his enduring passion for airplanes (tiger moths) and travel. Upon his return from the war to Winnipeg MB, he embarked on his career journey with TCA (Air Canada) in Winnipeg and then was transferred to Montreal (1958) with his wife Edith and their 4 children. Gordon Jr (predeceased 2015) Betty Lamb (Hudson QC), Jane (Port Alberni BC), Christine (Sydney Australia), Catherine & Scott Waugh (Pointe Claire QC)

In 1982 Gordon met his soul mate Mary Ferguson and together they journeyed on a truly remarkable life together for the next 40 years. Summer golfing (walking 18 holes 3 times a week) and winter curling at the Town of Mount Royal Curling club was his idea of keeping fit and he loved every minute of the games. Introducing Mary to the art of curling was a great achievement and together they cherished their time at the club.

Gordon’s rich life legacy was ever increasing. His family grew to include stepchildren Gerry Ferns, Scotland, Lorraine Ferns, Montreal and Martin Ferns (Carol Collins) Montreal. He was Grandpa to 18 grandchildren and Great Grandpa to 28 great grandchildren (& still counting) who were born in many parts of the world. Mary and Gordon felt fortunate that they were able to visit family and friends far and wide with Scotland being one of their favourite destination.

In between trips and grandkids, you often found Gordon in his workshop restoring and repairing antique furniture, or up a ladder helping one of his many kids or grandkids with painting or hammering. He was skilled and very generous with his time, always eager to lend a hand.

Gordon was a very handsome man for all of his 98 years! His striking blue eyes, white hair and quick smile made him someone you didn’t forget easily. He wore his Air Force uniform ever so proudly especially every Nov 11th. Mary will never forget the many years they spent travelling, curling, holding hands or dancing the night away. Gordon often loved to barbecue, go to nice restaurants, share a quiet drink out on the patio or on their back deck where he and his beloved ‘Mary’ would watch the stars together.

After almost 99 years, Gordon has left us with many fond memories, and an empty chair.

So, for one last time Gordon, we lift our glass to you. You are now with your son Gord Jr and your kid brother Jack, as we say our final farewell.

Due to COVID-19 there will be no immediate gathering. A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honour to the Lakeshore General Hospital Memorial Fund. Condolences would be appreciated and may be left at www.rideau@arbormemorial.com
