Gurmeet Manku (née Gurmeet Ubhi) passed away peacefully in her sleep in her family home on August 24, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family when she peacefully passed after a long illness. Her gentle, generous, loving and caring spirit will be greatly missed by all those fortunate enough to know her.
Gurmeet was born the eldest of six children on July 20th, 1937, in Hoshiarpur (Diwakari, India) to Kartar Ubhi and Davinder Kaur Chanderchinoria. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Gokal Manku, her loving children and grandchildren, and her siblings. She immigrated to Canada with her four children in December 1974, where she created a full and inspiring life. She learned English and French and found employment as a seamstress in the fashion district in Montreal. She fostered friendships and built connections wherever she went. She dealt with adversity with stoicism and heart. Her biggest priority in life was her family, particularly her four children (Binder, Dev, Ninder and Gum).
She was a loyal wife to her husband Gokal Manku, loving mother to Binder and her husband Vikram, Dev, Ninder and her husband Ayres and Gurnam and his wife Jennifer. She was also a doting grandmother to Aushim, Priyanka, Alekh, Gabriel, Emily & Julian. Gurmeet’s brother Pirthipal, his wife Paramjit and their two sons (Kamal and his wife Sukhi, Amit and his wife Maddie and their baby Reece) and her sister Manjeet, her husband Harmeet and daughter, Simren, were a huge part of her daily life and were a huge support during the past five months, also keeping vigil during her last days and nights.
