<div itemprop="description">It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Harnam Kakkar on Friday, April 3, 2026, <br>who died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Sacré-Coeur Hospital, after an unexpected illness. <br> <br>Born in Campbellpur, Pakistan, his family was displaced and settled in Delhi where he pursued his education, earning a law <br>degree before immigrating to Montreal in 1966. Driven by his strong determination and commitment to excellence, he completed <br>his Certified Management Accounting designation at McGill University, where he served as an adjunct professor for many years, <br>inspiring and mentoring countless students. A trailblazer in his field, Harnam became the first person of Indian and South Asian <br>descent to serve as President of a professional accounting body in Canada, and to be awarded its distinguished Fellow <br>designation. He was also an accomplished entrepreneur, establishing and leading successful businesses across Montreal, Toronto, <br>and the United States. He remained guided by his most cherished principles—to conduct all affairs with honesty and integrity, <br>and to help others—taking pride in mentoring others as they built ventures of their own. <br> <br>He will be remembered for his humility, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his community. A dedicated philanthropist, he <br>raised hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for charitable causes, performing countless acts of seva — selfless service — <br>quietly and without seeking recognition. His life was defined by professional distinction, and a profound and enduring <br>commitment to uplifting others, a legacy that is reflected in the loving family he nurtured and in the many lives he touched. <br>Harnam will always be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Madhu; his sons, Manu and Mohit; his <br>daughter-in-law, Rita; and his cherished grandchildren, Divya, Jaya, and Akshay. <br></div>
