<div itemprop="description">I N L O V I N G M E M O R Y <br> <br>It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Harnam Kakkar on Friday, April 3, 2026, who died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Sacré-Coeur Hospital, after an unexpected illness. <br> <br>Born in Campbellpur, Pakistan, his family was displaced and settled in Delhi where he pursued his education, earning a law degree before immigrating to Montreal in 1966. Driven by his strong determination and commitment to excellence, he completed his Certified Management Accounting designation at McGill University, where he served as an adjunct professor for many years, inspiring and mentoring countless students. A trailblazer in his field, Harnam became the first person of Indian and South Asian descent to serve as President of a professional accounting body in Canada, and to be awarded its distinguished Fellow designation. He was also an accomplished entrepreneur, establishing and leading successful businesses across Montreal, Toronto, and the United States. He remained guided by his most cherished principles—to conduct all affairs with honesty and integrity, and to help others—taking pride in mentoring others as they built ventures of their own. He will be remembered for his humility, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his community. A dedicated philanthropist, he raised hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for charitable causes, performing countless acts of seva — selfless service — quietly and without seeking recognition. His life was defined by professional distinction, and a profound and enduring commitment to uplifting others, a legacy that is reflected in the loving family he nurtured and in the many lives he touched. Harnam will always be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Madhu; his sons, Manu and Mohit; his daughter-in-law, Rita; and his cherished grandchildren, Divya, Jaya, and Akshay. <br> <br>C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Harnam Kakkar le vendredi 3 avril, qui s’est éteint paisiblement, entouré de ses proches à l’hôpital Sacré-Coeur, après une maladie inattendue. <br> <br>Né à Campbellpur, au Pakistan, sa famille a été déplacée et s’est installée à Delhi, où il a poursuivi ses études, obtenant un diplôme en droit avant d’immigrer à Montréal en 1966. Animé par une détermination sans faille et un engagement envers l’excellence, il a complété sa désignation de Comptable en Management Certifié à l’Université McGill, où il a également enseigné en tant que professeur adjoint, inspirant d’innombrables étudiants. Pionnier dans son domaine, Harnam est devenu le premier Canadien d’origine indienne et sud-asiatique à occuper la présidence d’un ordre professionnel comptable au Canada et à recevoir sa prestigieuse distinction de Fellow. Il était également un entrepreneur accompli, fondant et dirigeant des entreprises prospères à Montréal, Toronto et aux États-Unis. Guidé par ses principes les plus chers — agir avec honnêteté et intégrité et porter assistance aux autres — il prenait fierté à encadrer et soutenir ceux qui développaient leurs propres entreprises. Il sera rappelé pour son humilité, sa générosité et son dévouement envers sa communauté. Philanthrope engagé, il a recueilli chaque année des centaines de milliers de dollars pour des causes caritatives, accomplissant d’innombrables actes de seva — acte altruiste — en toute discrétion, sans jamais rechercher la reconnaissance. Sa vie a été marquée par l’excellence professionnelle et par un engagement profond envers le soutien des autres, un mérite reflété dans la guidance qu’il a apportés à sa famille.
