It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mom, Hilda Warrington. Hilda passed peacefully at the Residence Desjardins in St. Sauveur at the age of 91. Hilda was predeceased by her loving husband Fenton “Tubby” Warrington, parents Frank and Hilda Thompson and her two brothers Peter and Chester Thompson. She will be deeply missed by her children: Bob (Janet Lang) Darlene (Ken Dewar) Cathy (Jeff Barron) and Sharon; her grandchildren: Kyle (Katherine), Kathleen, Kurtis (Cécilia) and Kayla (Eric); great grandchildren: Kane, Kole, Lachlan, Kellen, Kaden and Karina.
Hilda will be lovingly remembered by her sister Mary (Robert Croft) and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Hilda was born in Ottawa to Hilda and Frank Thompson, the third of 4 children. In 1938 Frank moved his family to a small farm in Weir, Quebec. Hilda enjoyed country life tending to her dog Major, riding her horse Queenie and skiing down Weir Mountain to school in the village; walking back up lugging her skis…. not so much. In later years she enjoyed dancing at Round Lake Inn where her father played piano and where she met Tubby. Hilda and Tubby were married in 1953 and she moved to Montreal to start her married life. Hilda worked part time while raising four children and once we were all in school, she went to work for the Montreal Star. She loved her work in the accounting department and her time with her co-workers, especially her niece Janet. Not one to be idle, every Friday she had us all packed to go to Weir for the weekend where she worked at Tara Lodge. Here she kept an eye on her teenagers in the dance lounge and on Dad!
In the mid 1990’s she and Tubby retired to Weir. In retirement she kept herself busy with The Anglican Church, Victoria’s Quilts, Tole Painting, knitting, caring for seniors, and working at Alfie’s Beefeater.
When the time came to sell her home, she moved to the Stephen Jake Beaven Apartments in Weir. She loved driving her neighbours to town and was on the resident advisory board.
Our sincere thanks to her caregivers, Mavis, Lori, Stacey, Darlene, Caeleigh, Nathalie and Judith, who together enabled Hilda to stay in her home for an additional 18 months.
Hilda will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit, playful sense of humour, quiet strength and showing us the importance of family and love. She is deeply missed and forever loved.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025 at Rideau Funeral home, 4275 boul. des Sources, D.D.O., from 10am -11am, followed by a service at 11am. Burial will take place at 12pm followed by a reception at 12:30pm.
