It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Ilse Tchipeff on Jan. 24, 2023 in her 101st year. Predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Anton Tchipeff, she is survived by her children Martina (Brian Ruse), Anne (Doug Farnell), and Michael (of Tofino). Oma will be missed by her grandchildren Anthony Farnell (Samantha), Katherine FarnellInsley (Max), Alex Farnell (Annie), Tim Ruse (Catherine) and Jon Ruse (Catherine), as well as her seven greatgrandchildren.

Born in Germany, she immigrated to Canada with her husband and a very young Martina, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax as a refugee in 1952. The family settled in Montreal where Anne and Michael were born. Speaking neither French nor English, she helped the family by taking care of some young children in her home for which she had a special aptitude. This special love of children continued throughout her life. Her children and grandchildren were especially grateful when Oma and Opa would take them into their home every Friday night to stay overnight until noon on Saturday. They developed a special relationship with each other and with their Grandparents and their parents enjoyed their Friday "date nights" ! At the age of 55, she and her husband bought a house in Beaconsfield and she finally learned how to drive. She also became one of the first lunch program supervisors at Christmas Park School which she continued to do for 33 years until the age of 88. A bench in her honour can be found at the entrance of the school.

She enjoyed her many travels with friends in her later years and hosting "singalongs", canasta card parties and baking her famous Christmas cookies to give out at Christmas. She always had a positive outlook and saw the glass as halffull. She was truly remarkable — full of laughter, smiles and friendliness. Her favourite expression was "We're so lucky!" and now her spirit flies on "Bon Voyage, Marnie!"

She comes sailing on the wind,
her wings flashing in the sun;
on a journey just begun, she flies on.
In the passage of her flight,
her song rings out through the night;
full of laughter, full of light, she flies on.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Château sur le Lac and the Bayview for the care and support shown during her last 3 years of life. A private family celebration of life will take place in her honour.
