Ingrid Auguste Dorothea Kamenz (née Lobenstein)

Ingrid Kamenz passed away peacefully at the age of 98, with her children by her side, on December 13, 2023. A native of Hamburg, Germany, Ingrid immigrated to Canada in 1951 and settled in Montreal, Quebec. She was predeceased by beloved husband Herbert of 57 years. Ingrid was a proud and loving mother to her children Anita Jane (Jim Tausche), Donald Robert (Ina) and grandmother to Charlotte and Andrea Tausche, Rebecca Frost-Brewer (Camilla), Elizabeth Kuhn and Rydr Kamenz.

She was fiercely independent and an exceptionally inquisitive person who enjoyed reading, spending time at the family cottage in the Laurentians and on the beach in South Carolina, and going on long walks on wooded trails and outings with friends and family. In her earlier years, she spent many hours downhill and cross-country skiing and skating with her children and curling in Beaconsfield. An avid classical music lover, she attended many concerts and operatic productions in Montreal and had a strong passion and appreciation for coffee. She always looked forward to travelling with family and tried ziplining in Costa Rica short of her 90th birthday. During her last ten years at the Cambridge Seniors’ Residence, she enjoyed her days exercising and socializing with the other residents, including with members of her German community.

The family wishes to thank the ICU and palliative care staff of the Lakeshore General Hospital for their compassion and attention during her brief illness.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2023 and a brief service to celebrate her life will start at 3:30 p.m., at Rideau Funeral Home, 4239 Sources Blvd, Dollard-Des Ormeaux, QC, H9B 2A6. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at the Rideau Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ingrid’s memory may be made to the Welcome Hall Mission at https://welcomehallmission.com or a classical music organization of your choice.
