It is with heavy hearts and much love that we announce the passing of our beloved father , Ioanis (John) Metaxas, on February 9, 2025, at the age of 89 surrounded by his loving family.
John is predeceased by his devoted wife Georgia. He will be fondly remembered by his children Perry (Georgia), Constantina (Jonathan) and his loving grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister in Greece, his cousins, nephews and nieces, as well as many other family and friends both in Canada and in Greece.
John was born August 19, 1935 to Evangelos and Constantina Metaxas and raised in Perigiali, Corinth, Greece. He immigrated to his newly adopted home in Montreal with his loving wife Georgia in 1965 to pursue a better life. He worked as a cook in various restaurants throughout Montreal. He was a humble, dedicated family man who worked long hours to support his family, never missing a day of work.
He enjoyed barbecuing and gardening in the summertime and grew the most beautiful flowers, herbs and vegetables, generously sharing the bounty with his family and friends as was his nature. Known for his warm and sincere smile, John was kind, helpful and generous with everyone who crossed his path. He cherished his close friends and looked forward going for a coffee at the “γραφείο” (the office). But his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, who he adored and loved with all his heart, and for whom he had the biggest place in his heart.
We would like to express our gratitude to our family and friends, both near and far, for the outpouring of support and kindness we have received via calls, texts and messages during our time of sorrow. He will be forever missed and forever in our hearts. Memory Eternal.
The family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux on Tuesday February 18th 2025 from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm.The Funeral Serivce will be held at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Othodox Church, 20 Brunswick, Dollard-des-Omeaux on Wednesday February 19th at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of West Island can be made or, in John’s memory, simply extend an act of kindness to someone in need.
