It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irene Schibler Bastien, on March 25, 2024, in Pointe-Claire, at the age of 83.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter and son, Kerry Ann & Paul, by her brother Eric, and fondly remembered by her several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Irene travelled to Europe for several months, joined the Canadian Ski Patrol, was married and started a family in her twenties. She enthusiastically participated in family activities and vacations, and enjoyed weekends and summers at the family (tree) farm in Montpellier throughout her thirties and forties. Once her children were in school, she returned to work in accounting until her retirement. She enjoyed downhill & cross-country skiing, playing ringuette, and lounging by the pool, as well as baking or reading a good book while listening to CJAD. She was most proud of her volunteer work with the Daughters of the Nile, and dedicated fundraising activities for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Canada - Montreal.
Special thanks to the members of the Daughters of the Nile, Oasis Temple #46 for their support of one of their own, and of Irene's family.
Special thanks to the staff of the Chateau Royale, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, for their assistance for residents, unlimited kindness, and team spirit.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and extended staff of the Lakeshore General Hospital for their continued care, and deep compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children Canada, or to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, made in her memory.
The funeral will be held at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Boul. des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, on Tuesday, April 2, from 5pm to 7pm. She will be laid to rest at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Pointe-Claire, with her spouse, Henry Douglas Bastien. Burial services will be private for immediate family.
