In Loving Memory of Ms. Iva Angela Austin
January 17, 1945 – May 9, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Iva Angela Austin, age 80, in Montreal at Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence. She passed away peacefully on May 9th, 2025, surrounded by her Goddaughter Elissa Williams, Sylvia Williams, Kirk Goodridge, Sophia Adams, and Jose Manuel Demelo.
Born in Barbados on January 17th, 1945, Iva Angela Austin lived a life marked by grace, strength, and compassion. She was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. Her warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Throughout her life, Iva was a strong woman who carried herself with dignity and dedication, particularly during her many years of service at the hospital (MUHC), where she was deeply loved and respected. In her later days, she found strength in her faith and continued to smile and laugh despite the challenges. Her smile will forever live on in our hearts, and her laughter will echo in our memories.
She is survived by her brothers, Anthony and Errol Austin, and her sister, Mary Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gwendolyn Montrose Austin and Duely Gill, as well as her brothers, Alfred and Lester Austin.
I would also like to take a moment to recognize someone incredibly special—Millicent Adams. For over 65 years, Millicent was not just a close friend, but a constant presence and unwavering support in Iva’s life. She was there for her through every season, and most importantly, through her final days. Not only Iva, but I, Elissa Williams, will be forever indebted to Millicent for being the kind of friend we all wish we had.
Thank you, Millicent, for your boundless love, your listening ear, and for being Iva’s voice when she could no longer speak for herself. We don’t do things for recognition, but I say this from the depths of our hearts—on behalf of my Godmother, Iva Angela Austin—thank you for everything.
Though we grieve her passing, we release her into Your care, O Lord. She is no longer in our hands, but fully in Yours. She has now gone in peace, into Your light and Your love. Her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
