John 16:22 “Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”
Born in Switzerland, Jack soon tired of all the chocolate, Alps and being on time for appointments. Moving to Canada in his early 20s (“for adventure,” he told Brent a year ago), he fell in love and married Marjorie, a woman he knew was way out of his league. Thomas and Brent were added to the family soon. As sons, the boys can remember one argument between their parents, and it was about slightly-burnt cookies. It was resolved quickly.
Faithful Bible-based church attenders and followers of Jesus, Jack instilled a love for the Lord in his sons through words AND action.
He worked various jobs including as a porter for Via, a cab driver and finally for Montreal Shipping. He was fiercely independent and after the death of Marjorie in 2016, took care of himself at his own house until his last day. Over the years, he volunteered his time with a variety of organizations, including some Christian groups such as Leprosy Mission, Bible Truth Publications, the MacKay Center, Montreal Association for the Blind, Newman Place Gospel Hall, CHIP (Center for Hearing Impaired Persons), Mariner’s House Seafarer’s Center, B+ Hockey League, Helvetia Seniors and Eva Marsden Community Center to name but a few. That does not even touch on the number of people he and Marjorie welcomed into their home for Sunday lunch on a weekly basis. Also, Jack would regularly drive and accompany people to appointments over his retirement. It was rare for him to refuse a request.
Visiting Switzerland faithfully, he kept in touch with friends and family throughout his life looking for opportunities for visits, and would regularly regale others with stories and rambling thoughts.
He went to be with his Lord Jesus Tuesday January 27, while clearing snow at his home.
Dad leaves his older sister Stefanie in Switzerland, as well as his sons Thomas (Crystal), Brent (Gerda), grandchildren Emmitt (Nina), Hannah, and Ethan. And one great-grandchild due in June, whose name will be Juniper Marjorie. Dad was more than excited to see the next generation.
Charitable donations may be made in his name to one of the charities he helped.
