It is with profound sadness that the family of Janet Beaulieu (nee Schurman) announces her passing on 2 March 2024 at the age of 89.
Born in Valleyfield, Janet was the last of five children raised by Carl and Estella Schurman. Following high school, she trained to become a nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) in Montreal, graduating in 1955. It was at this time that she met her future husband, Marcel Beaulieu, whom she married in December 1957. Although Janet left nursing shortly afterwards to focus on the raising of what would be their four children, she returned to the profession in the mid 1970s, serving in the RVH’s premature nursery until her retirement in 1999.
Janet was a very compassionate individual, a quality that found expression in both her professional and private lives, but she also possessed a quiet strength that served her well in life’s more challenging moments. She valued many friendships forged in her lifetime, especially among her early nursing colleagues. Janet maintained a welcoming home, replete with hearty meals and a never-ending supply of homemade baked goods.
When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could often be found indulging herself in a round of golf, gardening, or spending time with friends. As an early devotee, Janet had an insatiable passion for figure skating. Her loss leaves a great hole in our lives, and we will miss her greatly.
Janet was predeceased by her husband in 2006 and her third son, Richard, in 2021. She is survived by her sons Marcel, Donald (Francine), and Pierre (Diana), along with her daughter-in-law, Rosemary, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the charity of your choice.
