It is with deep sadness, yet with immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived, that we announce the passing of Mr. Janis Lukstins, who passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, at the remarkable age of 102.
After a long and fulfilling life, he has gone to reunite with his beloved wife Gita and his cherished daughter Daina, both of whom he missed dearly.
He leaves to mourn his devoted granddaughter, Kaila, with whom he shared a treasured bond, her husband Brian Kanis: his cherished great-grandsons Parker and Carsyn; his son-in-law Brian Freeman; as well as many relatives and friends in Canada, Europe, and beyond.
Born in Latvia, Janis immigrated to Canada, where he built a life for himself and his family. Though he embraced his new home, he never forgot his roots, his homeland, or the loved ones who remained there. A simple, generous, and deeply caring man, he quietly watched over those he loved with unwavering devotion and affection.
Despite his advanced age, he maintained a remarkable sharpness of mind, a unique sense of humor, and a quick wit that continued to delight everyone fortunate enough to spend time with him. His wisdom, quiet strength, and reassuring presence will leave a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive condolences on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at:
Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Boulevard, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec H9B 2A6
