Johanne Gualtieri
March 8, 1945 - May 15, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Johanne Gualtieri (née Lefebvre) at the age of 78 years. After a long battle with various health issues, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her close family. The youngest of four daughters of Jean-Eugene Lefebvre (deceased 1956) and Margaret Garand (deceased 1994), she leaves behind in mourning her husband of 53 years Rinaldo, sons Gino (Rosa Adina Pagano) and Carlo (Anita Slopack) as well as her grandchildren Sofia, Isabella, Ariana, and Joseph. She also leaves in mourning her sisters Diane and Paulette Boyer (Allain, deceased). Her oldest sister Louise unfortunately passed away earlier this year in February. Many other family members and friends will miss her warm heart and welcoming spirit.
Johanne graduated from St. Pius X High School, with the class of 1962. She went on to work a few different jobs, leading her to a branch with the Royal Bank of Canada where she met Rose Gualtieri, who would introduce her to her brother Rinaldo. Within nine months, the two were married at St. Rita’s Church on June 21, 1969. They moved into a home in the Villeray neighbourhood of Montreal.
After having their two young sons, Johanne and Rinaldo felt it was time to move out of the city to the suburb town of Dollard-des-Ormeaux in the West-Island of Montreal, in 1977. The couple then co-founded the wholesale distribution company Central Die Supplies Inc. in 1980, a family firm, still in business today, specializing in products used to produce packaging. A true force in the success of the company, she continued to work until she first fell ill at the age of 72.
Johanne loved to be around people and have a good time, whether visiting family or friends’ homes, or hosting in her home. She was well-known for telling jokes or wanting to hear some from others. The ideal evening for her was enjoying a glass of wine over a meal at home or in a restaurant and sharing stories. The best time of the year for her was any holiday where she would host her family over and spend time together.
Johanne also loved to play games (Cribbage was her favourite) as well as solve word puzzles of all sorts. Not very often, rarely she would say, was she known to “consult the answers” at the end of the book for the odd “hint”.
The last years of her life were unfortunately very painful and uncomfortable due to the various health problems she suffered. Her Catholic faith helped guide her through this difficult time until her passing on May 15, 2023. Her family is heartbroken from losing her but relieved that she is now resting in peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the following charities that Johanne cared for would be very much appreciated:
