After a long and courageous battle with mesothelioma John lost the fight on Tuesday morning, January 28th.
A kind and generous man with four great passions; family, golf, hockey and bowling.
Much loved husband of Sylvia (Harvey-Rankin) and the late Sue (Alexandrovitch).
Loved by his children, Richard, Cathy, Shirley and the late William and his bonus children Jennifer, Fiona, and Andrea Rankin. Grandpa to eleven and great grandpa of four. Cherished brother of Marie, Jeanette, Rose and the late Joseph, Olga and Steve. Uncle Johnny to twenty.
After retiring from Canadian Pacific (1956–1993), he had plenty of time to perfect his golf game. Como Golf Club was his home away from home for 43 years. Many tournaments were won and he also mended or adapted anything that needed fixing. His last hole in one was the summer of 2023 to cap his final season. A good life lived to the fullest with travel, friends and family. What more could you ask for.
There will be no funeral, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Many thanks to the Oncology staff of Lakeshore Hospital, especially Josie, his pivot nurse. Donations to Lakeshore Hospital Foundation Oncology www.fondationlakeshore.ca would be appreciated.
