It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Oyama, 91 years of age, from Montreal, Quebec on June 24th, 2026 after a short stay in palliative care at the Montreal General Hospital.
Born on January 11th, 1935 in New Denver, British Columbia, he made his way to Montreal at the age of 18 to join his brother Kasey Oyama. Operated a business and worked in the needle trade industry for most of his life, he is survived by his wife Mary Ann dela Cruz.
His legacy of love continues through his children James “Jimmy” (Suzanne), Johanne and David. He was a deeply proud grandfather (Ji-Chan and Papang) and was loved by so many members on both sides of the family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him especially his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at the CHSLD Manoir L’Age-D’Or as well as the staff at the Montreal General Hospital for the excellent care he received while in residence and while in hospital where he spent his last moments.
A visitation and celebration of his long life will take place at:
