At the tender age of 92, Joyce died peacefully in her sleep at the West Island Palliative Care Residence, following a short illness and hospitalization. She was fortunate to have enjoyed excellent health throughout most of her life.

She had a full life; at times too full, as when German bombs and rockets were falling on London during World War II, she steadfastly held her own with a cooking pot on her head for protection. She fell in love and married husband and Canadian soldier, Gordon Fennell, after which she left her family and friends in London, England in order to accompany him to Canada as a war bride. She quickly immersed herself in Canadian affairs and became an active and contributing citizen in many ways; especially as a volunteer. In fact from the age of sixteen, volunteering to help those in need was a major influence in her life.

She was blessed with many long lasting friendships throughout Canada, but maintained a special place in her heart for Quebec and its people. Starting in 1976 until earlier this year, she volunteered many hours for several sitting MNAs for the provincial Robert Baldwin riding.

She leaves to mourn her husband of 71 years, Gordon Fennell, her son Keith, of Port Hope, Ontario, son Leigh, of Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, Quebec, daughter-in-law, Charlotte Fennell of Lindsay, Ontario, sister-in law, Josephine Cobb, of Carlsbad, California, brother-in-law, David Fennell of Cambridge, Ontario, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Rideau Gardens, in DDO on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 3 to 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the West Island Palliative Care Residence would be greatly appreciated.
