Judith Ann Appleby passed away at the age of 77 with her beloved husband John Blyth at her side on January 5, 2025, at the Glen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Judy had been battling cancer for almost 2 years. She was predeceased by her brothers William (Ailsa) and Reginald (Carol) and her sisters Patricia and Wilma. She was a treasured aunt to 13 nieces and nephews and a cherished friend to many. She was born and raised in Ville St. Laurent and lived in the same home for most of her life.
Judy began her career at Concordia University as a Reference librarian and went on to become head of the Vanier Library on the Loyola campus. She later took on the position of Head of Reference at the university's Webster Library at the Sir George Williams campus, where she served until her retirement in 2009. She maintained close contact with many of her colleagues, hosting annual croquet parties and attending regular lunch outings with other retired librarians.
Judy had many interests and passions. She was a great lover of animals and nature and was kind to every creature, human or otherwise, she came across. She valued kindness and compassion and social justice. She was an intellectual and was also passionate about dancing, literature, history and film. She and John practiced Latin and Ballroom dancing for over 20 years.
Judy was also very fond of her cats and actively participated in animal welfare activities, in particular Edu-chat's efforts with the trap neuter and release program for feral cats.
Judy was a very loving and generous person and donated to many charities that benefited our planet, animals and humans. If so desired and in lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in Judy’s name.
Cremation has taken place at Judy’s request. A small service will take place sometime in the near future.
