Judy Barrie (née Deachman) passed away early on November 2, 2025, at the age of 78 with her daughter by her side.

Judy was born in Ottawa and later lived in both Toronto and Calgary, before settling in Montreal. Having earned a Bachelor of English Literature in her youth, she returned to university at the age of 50 to get her Bachelor of Education. She then went on to have a fulfilling career as an ESL teacher in the adult sector.

Judy enjoyed a variety of activities: reading, walking, piano, and most recently, acrylic painting. She had a lifelong love of cats and gave many a good home over the years.

Judy is predeceased by her parents, Florence and Malcolm Deachman, as well as by her sister, Janet Simser. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Christine Barrie (Robert Anderson); her sister, Mary Mitchell; her brother-in-law Guy Simser; her sisters-in-law, Jeanne and Linda Barrie; her beloved cats, Katie and Ruby; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Judy and her daughter, Christine, were extremely close and spent much cherished time together.

Special thanks to Emily and the other NOVA nurses for their support and care over the last year.

As per Judy’s wishes, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations to NOVA West Island or Refuge Catchat would be greatly appreciated (please contact Christine in order to make a donation to the latter).
