King Yeung (Richard) Kan, beloved Master Sea Captain, former President of Taiwan Universities and Colleges Alumni Association of Montreal, brother, husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, with his family by his side at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Pointe-Claire, Quebec, after a long battle against an unknown lung disease. He was 76 years-old.
Richard was born King Yeung Kan in 1946 in Poon-Yu, China to parents Wang Ying and Kwei. He was a hard worker who put himself through University at Taiwan Provincial College of Marine & Oceanic Technology in Keelung where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Engineering and ultimately worked his way up from 3rd officer to Master Sea Captain. He was also an accomplished swimmer and captain of his soccer team, winning many medals for his school. He travelled the world, having stopped at many ports, including Burma, Kuala Lumpur, Greece, Bangladesh, Korea, Panama, Brazil, France and Italy.
In 1983, he left Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada with his family. He first opened a video rental store followed by a successful flower shop. He ran his businesses with his wife of 50 years, Sheue Hua Shirley Kan, born Lai. He loved and provided for his family of 3 daughters; Yeuk Ying Betty (Arsene), Man Sze Wendy (Andrew) and Hoi Ping Catherine (Cory). He was also a grandfather to Mireille Mei Hah, Connor Ying Jei, Amelie Mei Lei, Katelyn Jia Yin, Hailey Mei Jun and Skylar Mei Lan. He was a big brother to 5 siblings; Ting Yu, Chun, Chu Leung, Miranda and Ramy. He was also well loved by extended family, friends and former school mates.

The visitation is from 2:00PM-3:30PM and the service is from 3:30PM-4:00PM. The service will be live streamed on August 6 from 2:00PM-4:00PM EDT.
